Outline

Developed to support the revised EYFS framework this course links research on early language development with best practice to give practitioners up to date theoretical knowledge and practical tools to promote communication.

Description

The aim of the course is for practitioners to have a deep understanding of speech, language and communication in children aged 0 to 3 years. It covers all areas in detail and is a course designed for those practitioners with a keen interest in supporting children with SLCN and who have already completed some training in SLCN. The course requires commitment but in return will provide the practitioners with a deep understanding and strategies to implement in their settings.

Outcomes

By the end of the course practitioners will:-

  • Understand what communication is and how it can go wrong
  • Be confident to enhance the environment, their interaction and the their relationship with parents
  • Know how to use play to develop communication skills
  • Understand the impact of attention, listening and understanding and be confident to support children with these difficulties.
  • Be confident to develop vocabulary within the setting
  • Understand verbal normal language development and what to expect.
  • Confident in modifying their own speech to support language.
  • Be confident to support children develop their expressive language
  • Know how to encourage language and speech clarity
  • Gain knowledge and confidence in working with songs, rhymes, book sharing and literacy skills.
